10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2017

2017 is shaping up to be one hell of a year in Movie. I have weighed through the year to come and plucked up my 10 most anticipated films. These are not my picks for the best movies of 2017, but what I am will be waiting in line for opening weekend.

10. The Mummy (July 9)

Say what you will, but Tom Cruise is a bad ass action star that you can really drop into anything and you know it will be at the very least, entertaining. The Mummy will be kicking off a new Universal Monsters franchise that will include Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll, Johnny Depp as the Invisible man, and Javier Bardem as Frankenstein. The talent and property are there, now we wait to see if it will be any good.

9. Darkest Hour (November 24)

Of the the most influential and important Men of the 20th century, Winston Churchill, gets his own bio pic and it has Oscar written all over it. Gary Oldman looks completely transformed as Churchill and I think it is finally Oldman's time for an Oscar. The movie will tell the story of Churchill as the faces off against Hitler in the early stages of WWII. I'm calling it now, Oldman will be on stage, holding the Oscar February 2018.

8. Justice League (November 17)

There is no doubt that 1 year ago, Justice League would have been fighting for the top spot on my most anticipated list. But after a... rough 2016, I feel like Justice League is shaping up to be DC's last stand. They are bringing together their full roster and holding nothing back in order to hopefully get their expanded universe on the right track. I, like millions of fans, am willing this movie to be good and am anxiously awaiting its release.

7. Murder on the Orient Express (November 22)

Not a ton is know about the upcoming remake of the 1970's murder mystery of the same name. Kenneth Branagh (Thor and Cinderella) is at the helm of a true All-star casing: Daisy Ridley, Johnny Depp, Josh Gad, Penélope Cruz, and Dame Judi Dench to name a few. The great cast and mystery around the anticipated remake have landed in on my top 10 list.

6. Spiderman: Homecoming (July 7)

The third iteration of Spiderman on the silver screen is off to a great start and the web crawler is set to rule the summer. Tom Holland stole the show every time he was on screen in Civil War. His and Robert Downing Jr's chemistry was perfect and it looks like Tony stark will play a big role in Peter Parkers story going forward, which is great. I was never a huge fan of the pervious two Spiderman series but hopes are high for this new, Uncle Ben dying free, movie.

5. Kingsman: The Golden Circle (October, 6)

Kingsman was one of those rare occasion where you go into a movie with little to no expectation and are blown away. The second go around with the Kingsman has a lot to live up to, not sure how they can top the Free Bird church scene. I am a bit concerned that lighting won't strike twice and am hoping The Golden Circle doesn't end up on the most disappointing movies of 2017.

4. Thor: Ragnarok (November 3rd)

Thor: Ragnarok kept moving up my list as more got released about the film. This movie kind of reminds me of a seven layered dip. Thor, Loki, and Odin all return. Then you bring in Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk to co-star in the film. Next you add a list of incredible actors to helm new characters, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill. Finally you top it off with Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Strange and walla, Thor: Ragnarok seven layered dip of awesomeness.

3. Dunkirk (July 21st)

Christopher Nolan's World War Two Epic looks... Epic. The film tells the story of the evacuation of allied forces from Dunkirk, France, something I honestly didn't know anything about. When I saw the tailer for the first time, it literally gave me chills. Then, I came across this clip. A 5 minute, single take, tracking shot that incredible, like nothing I've ever seen. I think this movie has the chance to be something special.

2. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5th)

The Guardians of The Galaxy might be one of my Favorite movies of the past 5 years. The long awaited, much anticipated sequel was announced before the first even hit theaters. Marvel knew what it was doing. The second go around for the Guardians looks to be bigger in scope but still has that comedic charm and charisma that made the first so great. Everything I am hearing and seeing from Vol. 2 is only adding to the anticipation, not to mention Baby Groot.

1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi (December 15th)

The Last Jedi is set up to be this generations Empire Strikes Back. JJ Abrams and team did a fantastic, and near impossible, job of not only introducing a new set of characters but making us connect and fall in love with them. I find myself just as excited to see the next chapters for Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo as I am Luke and Leah. As a life long Star Wars fan, I can't wait to see what next in my favorite film franchises.
